What is Hookspring?
Hookspring is an AI clip maker that turns long videos into ranked, ready-to-post vertical shorts for YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Reels. Upload footage, get hook-scored clips, polish them in a simple editor, and export an MP4. Most of the choosing is done for you.
How does hook scoring work?
Each candidate clip is ranked by how likely its opening 1–3 seconds are to stop a scroll, with a short reason attached. You review the ranked list and edit the ones worth posting, instead of scrubbing the whole video yourself.
Do I have to upload my footage anywhere?
Once. Your video (or YouTube link) is stored privately in your library so Hookspring can transcribe it and score the hooks. Everything after that (cutting, reframing, captions, export) runs locally in your browser, so nothing is uploaded again to render your short.
What do I get when I export?
A vertical MP4 (720p or 1080p, 30fps) with burned-in captions in your chosen template, ready for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Rendering happens on your device.
Can I edit the clips myself?
Yes. Every ranked clip opens in a built-in editor: trim and split on a simple timeline, click-to-focus framing, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9 layouts, caption templates, text overlays, image and video inserts, transitions and per-clip volume, with undo throughout.
What is Idea → video, and is it available?
Idea → video is our second flow: give it a topic and an agent pipeline researches, scripts, fact-checks, finds real images and assembles a narrated news-style short. It is in development and marked Coming soon wherever it appears.
Is Hookspring free?
You can try the core flow for free. AI steps like transcription and hook scoring use credits. The editor itself (cutting, captions, export) is unlimited.
Can I clip other creators’ videos?
Only with their permission, through a clipping program or campaign that allows it, or where fair use clearly applies. Reposting someone’s video without rights can get your clips taken down and your account struck. Hookspring is a tool for clipping footage you own or are cleared to use.
